Bra camp comes to Bristol!
Start your bra making journey here! Sewing your own bra can seem intimidating. We’re here to change that! In this class we will focus on learning how to fit and sew a bra for your body! We will be taking a deep dive into bra sizing, material functionality, fitting and pattern modifications. You will learn tips and tricks for sewing a clean, finished bra that looks just as good on the inside as it does on the outside. You will leave Bra Camp with new skills, knowledge, and friendships!
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
Bra Making Workshop (2-day workshop)
Bra making kit with lace and all required findings and elastics
1 spool of matching thread
Underwires are not included, however you will have the possibility in class to try on different shaped and sized underwires to determine which underwires you should order after the class is over.
Refreshments (tea, coffee, water, biscuits)
BRA PATTERN:
We will be sewing the Harriet Bra by Cloth Habit or the Lusamine Bra by LilypaDesigns.
These are great patterns, because they offer support while still appearing delicate and beautiful. They have a 3-piece cup, which allows for good cup volume and scooped back, which is not only very comfortable to wear, but is also more supportive than a
tapered back. These are great first bras to learn bra making techniques that you can then use to make many other styles of bras!
WHAT TO BRING:
Purchased Harriet Bra Pattern or the Lusamine Bra (Due to pattern copyright laws, everyone will need to have purchased their own PDF copy of the bra pattern prior to the class)
Rotary Cutter (recommended: 18mm or 28mm but bigger will also work!)
Fabric Scissors
Paper Scissors
Disappearing Ink Fabric Pen
Sewing Pins
Measuring Tape
Notebook and Pencil
Lunch
SKILL LEVEL:
This class is for intermediate to advanced sewists. You should know how to work a sewing machine and feel confident in handling small, slippery pieces of fabric.
BRA CAMP BREAKDOWN:
Day One (10am – 6pm):
We will start the day going over all the materials needed to make a bra. Bella will provide sample cup sizes that you can try on to find your correct size. Once your size is determined you will sew a toile of the band to practice sewing techniques and to make
sure the band fits properly.
Everyone will have the opportunity to have a one-on-one fitting with Bella. Together you will assess the fit and make the necessary modifications to your paper pattern. You may also assess the fit on your own. Whatever makes you feel comfortable!
The day will end with a demonstration on how to cut out the bra so that the lace is mirrored on both cups.
Day Two (10am – 6pm):
Day two is dedicated to sewing the final bra. Bella will teach you construction methods for achieving beautifully finished bra that looks just as good on the inside as it does on the outside!
