After finding some amazing Christmassy jersey fabric at Fabricland in December, I decided that I would make my very own Christmas jumper! I chose the Linden pattern from Grainline Studio as it seemed like a quick and easy make.
I did initially intend to use the striped festive fabric for the whole jumper, however, I was not keen to pattern match the complicated stripes, and decided to do a contrast sleeve, neck and waist band. The Sewing Gods were on my side, as I had the perfect colour grey ponte fabric from Sewn in Bristol in my stash, so there were no delays! I did sew this version using my sewing machine and then finished the edges using my overlocker.
The only issue I encountered was I attached the waistband to the neck, as I was full of cold and not thinking straight! Luckily, it was a very easy fix, and just needed some time with my seam ripper before I was back on track!
I am really pleased with the fit and the colour combination and will look forward to bringing this jumper out again next December.
After the success of my first Linden, I couldn’t resist making another after seeing this adorable Art Gallery Fabric in this super cute pug design, from Sewn! Again, the stash came in useful with a well matched cream ponte for the sleeves, neck and waistband. This time around, I sewed the whole thing using my overlocker, which meant it only took two hours to complete, including cutting out time.
Once I had posted a picture of it on Instagram, I was asked if I could make a miniature version as a Christmas present for my 10 year old Goddaughter, Olivia! She just loves pugs and, while one of the things I love about sewing is having a totally unique garment, I couldn’t resist making another version.
I looked everywhere for a suitable child’s raglan sleeve sweatshirt, but couldn’t find anything suitable but then hit upon a great idea. I could just reprint the PDF pattern out at 80% of the original scale! I made sure it would still fit, based on Olivia’s measurements and the finished measurements of the original and luckily my gamble paid off!
I have one very pleased Goddaughter and took the opportunity to take a picture of us in our matching tops!
The thing I love about this pattern is that it is a real stash buster, due to the ability to use a contrast fabric.
